Discover Primary Science Award 1
26th Apr 2018
The boys and girls in Room 10 have been busy scientists the last few weeks. We are applying for the Discover Primary Science Certificate.
Experiment 1: How to plants drink water?
Equipment:
- a jar of water
- 1 stalk of celery
- red food dye
- pipette
Activity:
- We discussed how humans and animals drink water.
- Using our knowledge of plants, we predicted how plants might drink water.
- Using a pipette we dropped 4 drops of red food dye into the jar of water.
- We placed the stalk of celery into the jar of red water.
- We left our experiment on the windowsill for 24 hours.
Results:
- When we cut the celery we could see the tubes had been dyed red.
Conclusions:
Plants drink water by sucking it up - like a straw!
