Discover Primary Science Award 3
26th Apr 2018
Room 10 completed their final experiment this week. This week we became engineers and explored how bridges are built.
Experiment 3: How bridges are built.
Equipment:
- Lego
- Cardboard
- Spaghetti
- Blue Tac
- Popsicle Sticks
- iPad
Activity:
- Using the iPad we explored different types of bridges and what makes bridges strong.
- We read a book telling us interesting facts about bridges.
- We found out that a triangle is the strongest shape and this is what engineers use when building bridges.
- We split into 4 groups (Lego, Lego & cardboard, spaghetti & Blue Tac and popsicle sticks & Blue Tac) and attempted to build strong bridges.
Results:
Some of our bridges were too weak and could not support any weight. Some of our bridges were really strong.
Conclusions:
- Bridges that were built with triangles and supports were the strongest type of bridge.
